My scalp and stress – not a good combination

I wanted to find a picture with some flakes, but they were DISGUSTING! So, this is me -- in case you forgot what I look like over the past few weeks πŸ™‚

Hi all! First of all, my dad is doing really well. He’s walking, talking and cracking jokes… serious jokes about stuff that I didn’t think he would remember. Yay Pops! Seeing that he’s feeling well, I am in a mood to talk hair!

Since December 14, I have spent inordinate amounts of time at the hospital and I’ve been under major stress.Β I got my hair done the weekend my dad took sick because my husband and my sister both agreed that we all needed a bit of a break. While I didn’t like being away from the hospital for hours, they were right. I needed some TLC. That was the last good scrub my scalp got. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve washed my hair weekly since then, but my scalp has been acting in all types of ignorant ways. It’s flaking. It’s itching. It’s coming out in chunks.

Really, it is ri-damn-diculous.

Last weekend, I thought that I would do something special for my hair and scalp. I washed my scalp with my black soap and water, then I did a deep condition with the Curl Junkie Curl Rehab Moisturizing Hair Treatment. I left that in for a good four hours while I hung out with my dad. When I got home, I rinsed everything out and used my Giovanni Direct Leave-in conditioner and then styled with one of my wholesale purchases: Essential Wholesale’s Styling Hair Jelly (on an aside, I will put down this product until spring. It’s not that it’s not good, but my hair needs something more moisturizing during the winter).

My scalp has played the fool since wash day on Saturday. Today is Thursday and it’s gross in there. My scalp hasn’t reacted this poorly since I was using shampoos regularly. It has got to be stress — that’s the only thing that’s changed. Now that I’m calming down and the cortisol is coming out of my system, I’m hoping that my scalp starts acting like it should.

I’m going to go through the motions on Saturday afternoon — let’s see what happens.

  1. Blah, my dandruff is always so much worse in the winter… I hate it! I used to dye my hair blonder with the rationale that it was harder to see dandruff in light hair than in dark hair, but I just looked foolish. Now I wear a lot of hats πŸ™‚

    1. LOL! I stopped wearing dark coloured tops… but I love black. What’s a girl to do? Your hat game must be on point — I have a big head, so I tend to stay away from hats unless it’s for practical, I-wanna-stay-warm-in-this-Canadian-winter reasons πŸ™‚

    1. Hi bellemcky!
Thanks for asking! We are doing well and I’m crazy busy with my little one who’s seven months today πŸ™‚ I’m planning to start blogging again really soon – thanks for visiting!
